HIAS works with pro bono attorneys across North America to provide legal services to asylum seekers, asylees, and others who are seeking humanitarian relief. HIAS engages pro bono attorneys to help with short term and discrete projects, as well as full legal representation. Through this program, pro bono attorneys receive ongoing support from HIAS in the form of mentoring and access to a library of resources. During this training, you will learn more about HIAS’ pro bono program, including how HIAS collaborates with pro bono attorneys and current pro bono opportunities. HIAS staff will also answer other frequently asked questions about the pro bono program.
The Reform Jewish Movement’s commitment to migrant justice is unwavering. Perhaps more than other communities, the COVID-19 pandemic has placed added hardship on migrant and immigrant communities. Right now, borders are tightly sealed, ICE detention centers are COVID-19 hotspots, DREAMers are living in constant fear of deportation, and the U.S. asylum system is being strategically dismantled. Despite the challenging landscape, we remain committed to connecting Reform Jews to opportunities to take action around pressing issues, like the health and safety of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
