WHAT IS MINECRAFT & MIDRASH? Minecraft & Midrash is an experimental Shabbat morning experience via Zoom centered around building and Minecraft. In Minecraft & Midrash, our community will celebrate Shabbat through songs and creative Minecraft building prompts that relate to our Torah service and our Sci-Tech values. Throughout the service, participants will be building and exploring in a Sci-Tech only Minecraft server (built by our staff volunteers!) while listening to the familiar and comforting sounds and drashim (teachings) of a Saturday morning service on Zoom!
WE ARE USING MINECRAFT JAVA EDITION. Families are responsible for purchasing and downloading Minecraft Java Edition themselves on a PC or Mac computer. Mobile, tablet, console, or Chromebook Bedrock versions WILL NOT WORK.
WHEN WILL SERVER INFORMATION BE SENT? Detailed instructions on how to connect to the server will be sent in the confirmation email upon registering. Folks who are participating in the Minecraft building challenge should practice doing the following before joining on Saturday: chat, basic building, exploring/moving their avatar, and creating and leaving signs in Minecraft Java Edition.
DON'T PLAY MINECRAFT? Join us on Zoom anyways! This service is just as much fun to watch as it is to "play". Whether you’re joining us in Minecraft on your computer or with drawing/craft supplies on your kitchen table, there's a way for everyone to participate! We will be singing familiar camp tunes as well as exploring the poetry of the Mishkan T’filah.
CAN I READ TORAH? If you're an older camper or adult (post b’nei mitzvah) who is interested in reading Torah during a Minecraft & Midrash service, please go to www.6PointsSciTech.org/TorahReading/ to sign up for a portion and a date!
For more info (including links to Minecraft Java Edition download and online Mishkan T'filah) go to the "Minecraft & Midrash" section of our website at www.6PointsSciTech.org/VirtualAcademy/.
